As you can see by reading my bio, I have a lot of interests.
I am fascinated by maritime history, nefarious pirates, lowcountry history and folklore, ghosts, southern fiction, mysteries, strange phenomenon (such as UFOs and crop circles), voodoo, and travel.
One of the first questions I'm usually asked by the media is "How did I get started writing these books?" Quite honestly, I stumbled into it! My passion and research, combined with dumb luck, God's help, and lots of patience by my editor, has led me to pen more than twelve books on these topics.
Here are some other questions I'm often asked.
What are the last five books I've read:
The Sunday Wife (Cassandra King)
The Terror (Dan Simmons)
Colony (Anne Rivers Siddons)
Great Southern Mysteries (E. Randall Floyd)
Secret Life of Beer (Alan D. Eames)
What is my favorite ghost tale?
I could never narrow it down to just one!
Who was my favorite pirate?
Anne Bonny, of course, because I can totally picture myself as this tough, sexy, fearless pirate!
Where is my favorite travel destination?
Africa. While I treasure all my globe-trotting experiences, I absolutely love East and Southern Africa. You will too, I promise, once you have seen a hippo coming out of the Zambezi at sunset, hot-air ballooned over the Northern Serengetti, enjoyed a cold drink at sunset while looking out over the Mari, or participated in a night game drive at Samburu. Our jeep was chased by a mother elephant who thought we got too close to her herd. Now that's an experience you don't forget!
What is my favorite place in the Carolinas?
I have so many places I love throughout the Carolinas, so this is a tough one. Seriously! We are blessed to have so many great cities and towns. And it really does depend on what you're looking for: mountains, beach, nature, nightlife, etc. I have property on the Albemarle Sound (which is the largest body of freshwater in the world) and that area remains largely unspoiled by development (for now). It is a writer's haven!
What am I working on right now?
My tan. Seriously, my publisher and publicist insist that I take some time and promote my recent books (something about paying the bills). But I will get back to writing soon. I have a couple of great ideas...
