GOOD BOOKS ON PIRACY

There are TONS of books on piracy, depending on what you’re looking for, i.e. kids books, fiction, a history of piracy, or a book on a specific buccaneer. Of course, I highly recommend Pirates of the Carolinas and Pirates of the Carolinas for Kids, but if you insist on expanding your library, here are a few good places to find what you’re looking for:

PIRATE FESTIVALS ACROSS THE CAROLINAS

Greenville/Pitt County Pirate Festival (April) Greenville, NC is a big event featuring children’s games, costume contests, educational displays, food and grog, arts and crafts, and more. www.piratefestnc.com

Beaufort Pyrate Invasion (Aug) Beaufort, NC is a FUN event offering a Pirate Invasion and Encampment. We’ll watch pirates battle and then stand trial for piracy and much more, including a Buccaneer’s Ball and lots of food and ale. www.beaufortpyrateinvasion.com

Invasion of the Pirates Flotilla (Oct) Wilmington, NC is a fairly new event, established in 2005. Lots of family-friendly activities, such as a treasure hunt, costume contest, and a pirate flotilla! www.invasionofthepirates.com

Charleston Harbor Fest (June) Charleston, SC features ship tours, educational displays about pirates and more, sailing lessons, lowcountry food, helicopter rides, and much more.

Harborwalk Festival (June) Georgetown, SC has been a tradition since 1988. You may not see any pirates, but there are lots of boats and  great activities for all ages. Call 843-546-1511 or visit

You may be wondering about the NC BLACKBEARD FEST in Morehead City. It is my understanding that it has been cancelled indefinitely.
